POCATELLO — For the second time this weekend Pocatello firefighters have extinguished a fire at an apartment building.

Around 8:10 p.m. Sunday the Pocatello Fire Department responded to the St. Anthony Place senior citizen apartments on the 600 block of North Seventh Avenue after residents there reported a fire.

Pocatello police evacuated St. Anthony Place's elderly residents while firefighters located and extinguished the fire.

The Fire Department reported that a few of St. Anthony Place's residents were being evaluated for possible smoke inhalation but there were no other injuries.

As of 9 p.m. Sunday firefighters said the fire was out and they were ventilating the apartment building using large fans. Firefighters said as soon as the smoke was cleared from the building they would allow most of St. Anthony Place's residents to return to their apartments.

The Fire Department has not yet provided information on the fire's possible cause or the damage it inflicted on the apartment building.

North Seventh Avenue and other streets in the area of St. Anthony Place were temporarily shut down because of the fire.

Pocatello firefighters had already extinguished one apartment building fire this weekend. That fire ignited on Saturday afternoon at the Collegiate Inn Apartments on South Fourth Avenue.

One apartment suffered fire damage during that blaze and at least two others suffered smoke damage. There were no injuries and firefighters rescued a small dog from one of the apartments.

The Fire Department said the Collegiate Inn fire remains under investigation.
