Memorial services have been scheduled for a 10-year-old Blackfoot girl who died after suffering a gunshot wound in Bear Lake County over the weekend.
The funeral for Ariel May Gerstlauer has been scheduled for 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Hawker Funeral Home, which is at 132 S. Shilling Ave. in Blackfoot, according to her obituary. She will be buried at the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
Bear Lake County sheriff’s officials are still investigating the incident and have not yet released many details about the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death.
They did say earlier this week that she suffered a single gunshot wound at a location just off U.S. Highway 30, near Montpelier, on Sunday. She died at the scene.
Bear Lake County Coroner Chad Walker said an autopsy performed on Wednesday confirmed that the girl died after receiving a gunshot wound to the head.
The Journal attempted to contact sheriff’s officials for an update on Thursday, but they were not immediately available for comment.
Gerstlauer was a student at Blackfoot Charter Community Learning Center.
She enjoyed music, makeup, camping and being with her grandma, family and friends, according to her obituary.
