BOISE — A Boise police officer has been arrested on suspicion of felony rape, according to the Boise Police Department.
Officer Eric Simunich, 43, was booked into the Ada County jail noon on Wednesday following an Ada County Sheriff’s Office investigation of an off-duty incident.
According to Ada County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Patrick Orr, detectives began investigating Simunich on Monday, after the alleged victim in the case called 911.
“Detectives found evidence Simunich forced himself on the victim and had illegal sexual contact with her at the home several hours before,” Orr wrote on the Ada County Sheriff’s Office’s blog.
They also found evidence Simunich and the woman had met the day before, according to Orr. The Ada County Prosecutor’s Office secured a warrant for Simunich’s arrest Wednesday. He turned himself in to the Ada County Jail just before noon, Orr confirmed.
Simunich has been suspended pending the conclusion of the sheriff’s office investigation, according to the department. The Boise Police Department is also conducting an internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Simunich is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
