The adult male found in the Snake River on Wednesday has been identified as Michael Lawrence Meissner, age 51.
No foul play is suspected.
Meissner’s body was found near the City Power Plant (140 S. Capital) in Idaho Falls.
For the fourth time this month, local law enforcement officers have recovered a dead body from an East Idaho waterway.
This most recent incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday when Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office deputies and detectives recovered a deceased man from the Snake River near the 100 block of South Capital Avenue in Idaho Falls.
Authorities said late Wednesday afternoon that they believe they know the man’s identity but until they’re sure his name won’t be released. The Sheriff’s Office did say that the man was fully clothed when his body was recovered from the river and he is approximately age 50.
The Sheriff’s Office said a citizen spotted the man’s body in the river late Wednesday morning and dialed 911.
Authorities are not yet commenting on the man’s possible cause of death. The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office said more information will be released on Thursday.
The discovery of the man’s body in the river follows a Tuesday announcement by the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office about the body of another man being discovered in the Snake River by a boater near the Tilden boat ramp south of Blackfoot on Aug. 5.
Two other men drowned in East Idaho this past weekend.
Authorities said they do not believe any of the deaths are in any way connected to each other.
The deceased individual whose body was found in the Snake River on Aug. 5 has been identified as 48-year-old Johnny Johnson, a Pocatello resident who had been reported missing around Aug. 1.
Authorities have not yet commented on his cause of death except to say that foul play is not suspected in the case.
The Bingham County Sheriff’s Office said information about Johnson’s body being found was not released sooner because authorities had to determine his identity and then notify his next of kin.
Johnson’s death preceded two other incidents in East Idaho since Saturday in which bodies were found in local waterways.
Bradley Miller, 53, of Pocatello, drowned Sunday in the American Falls Reservoir in Power County and Dallon Hill, 23, of St. Anthony, drowned Saturday in the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River near the Fun Farm Bridge in Fremont County, authorities said.
