Fire kills dogs, cat

Firefighters battle a house fire on Thursday afternoon on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation.

FORT HALL — Authorities are investigating a residential fire that destroyed a home and killed three pets on Thursday afternoon.

The fire, which took place at 675 North Treaty Highway in Fort Hall, led to the death of two dogs and a cat, according to a news release from the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes’ Office of Public Affairs. No other injuries were reported.

They are still trying to determine the cause of the fire that started around 4 p.m.

Fort Hall and Blackfoot fire departments responded to the scene. But the flames were already extending from the front window of the home to the porch and up into the roof when they got there.

“The crews attempted to make entry through the front door but had to retreat due to the floor of the home falling,” according to the news release.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire within 40 minutes. But they remained on scene until 9 p.m. as they investigated the incident along with the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Fort Hall Police.
