POCATELLO — An extended-stay hotel is planned to open in about a year on Pocatello’s east bench.
It will be a Home2 Suites by Hilton, according to John Koehler, co-owner of The Koehler Organization, which owns the future Pocatello establishment.
“We just feel confident in the Pocatello market and feel there’s an opportunity for additional rooms,” Koehler said. “We feel very positive about the town and the direction it’s going.”
The Koehler Organization already has one hotel in Pocatello — the Hampton Inn & Suites — and owns 36 total hotels that are mostly in the western United States.
Its newest hotel in Pocatello will be at 2325 Via Caporatti Drive, which is near Jakers Bar and Grill.
Home2 Suites terms itself as a “mid-scale, all-suite hotel targeted to the value-conscious extended-stay traveler.”
The Pocatello hotel will have four levels and six suites, which will all have bedrooms, kitchens and living areas. The hotel will have an indoor pool and hot tub, outdoor patio featuring a grill and fire pit, fitness center, laundry units, a market and free breakfasts.
Koehler said he did not know what the room rates will be, while he did say they would vary by day of the week and season.
There is no minimum or maximum time for a customer’s stay, but the longer someone stays, the smaller the daily rate will be.
Koehler said the hotel will employ 25 to 30 full-time and part-time employees combined for the hotel.
Construction will begin as soon as a building permit is acquired and the weather is satisfactory.
The civil engineer for the project is Rocky Mountain Engineering & Surveying.
“With the suites, the extended stay, kitchens, we’ll provide very specific accommodations that not a lot of other hotels have.” Koehler said.
