A 37-year-old Shelley woman died Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash south of Idaho Falls, according to a news release from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office.

Alicia L. Oyola had to be extricated from the vehicle she was driving after the crash. She was taken by ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, according to the release. But she died of her injuries.

The crash happened about 8 a.m. at the intersection of 113th South and 1st East, which is about seven miles south of Idaho Falls.

Oyola was driving a Nissan Exterra north on 1st East approaching the intersection. And 31-year-old Joshua Allen of Shelley was driving his Ford Explorer east on 113th South approaching 1st East. Allen failed to yield to Oyola at the stop sign and the vehicles collided, according to the news release.

Both vehicles came to rest in a nearby field.

The first deputy to arrive found Oyola trapped and unconscious in her Exterra. The deputy and bystanders began first aid until ambulance emergency workers arrived.

Allen was able to free himself from his Explorer and climb out to help attend to Oyola.

The Idaho Falls Fire Department responded to the accident and put out a small fire in Allen’s Explorer.

Both drivers wore seat belts. And there were no signs of alcohol or drugs being involved in the wreck, according to the press release.

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the crash.
