ABERDEEN — The 12 members of the Aberdeen High School Cheer Squad took home four first place trophies and the State Grand Championship title last week.
At the 2014 Idaho High School Dance and Cheer State Championships held in Nampa, AHS Cheer beat out 12 other 2A schools that competed.
AHS Cheer performed four routines that consisted of stunts, pyramids, tosses, tumbling, jumps, dance, chants, kicks, poms and signs. Each routine lasted between one to two-and 2.5 minutes. The all-girl team worked the entire year to perfect its skills, coach Christine Duffin said.
“It is a demanding sport requiring year-round participation,” Duffin said. “They are a highly dedicated squad. The girls love it and their hard work paid off in the end.”
AHS Cheer competed in four different competitions and had a perfect season, bringing home a total of 15 first-place titles with trophies, the District Title, and the State Championship trophy and banner. The team holds the 2014 titles of 2A Idaho Classic Champs, Cupids Challenge Champs, District 2A Champs, and now the 2A State Championship.
Along with Duffin, the team is led by coaches Chana Duffin and Lauri Lehman.
“It has been fun to represent our community and we want to thank the community and all those who have contributed and supported us throughout the year,” Duffin said.
