POCATELLO — Pitching led the way for the Pocatello Razorbacks on Wednesday at Halliwell Park.
After a strong showing from starting pitcher Scott Baker, the Single-A Legion Razorbacks held on for a 6-3 win against the Single-A Idaho Falls Tigers at the Pocatello Razorbacks/BSN SPORTS 2019 Wood Bat tournament.
The Tigers scored two runs in the top of the seventh frame, cutting their deficit to 6-3.
But Razorbacks pitcher Easton Eddie closed the door on Idaho Falls’ comeback, tallying the final three outs of the game to seal the win.
Baker set the tone for the Razorbacks, pitching five innings of three-hit ball. He struck out nine and walked none over 75 pitches. Baker faced the minimum in three of five frames and threw 53 strikes.
The pitcher also had at least two strikeouts in four of five frames, including notching three strikeouts in the second inning.
“We got great starting pitching from Scott Baker,” Pocatello coach Jason Jones said. “Baker just hit his spots and mixed it up well.”
Pocatello jumped on Idaho Falls in the first inning, scoring three runs to take a 3-0 advantage. Eddie got Pocatello on the board with an RBI single. Teammate Kobe Holt added an RBI single two batters later as Pocatello went ahead 2-0, and Pocatello’s final run of the frame came after Deakon Blackhawk scored on a walk with the bases loaded to Luke Davis.
Blackhawk added a two-RBI triple in the Razorbacks’ three-run sixth frame, helping the squad jump ahead 6-1.
“Timely hits from Deakon Blackhawk and Eddie closed the door,” Jones said.
Eddie finished with a game-high two hits, while Blackhawk added a game-high two RBIs. Idaho Falls was held to four hits and two of the four runs were unearned to the Razorbacks’ pitching staff.
Pocatello (13-4-1) continues tournament play Thursday at Halliwell Park against Riverton (Wyoming).
