FIRST TEAM

100-METER DASH

Matthew Klassen, sr., Aberdeen

Notable: 2A District 5 champion, fourth place at 2A state championships

The lowdown: Klassen ran an 11.04-second 100-meter dash in the prelims at the 2A state championships, the fourth-fastest 100 time in 2A this season. Klassen’s fastest time coming into this season was 11.27, and he tallied three marks faster than that in 2019. The senior also won his third consecutive 2A District 5 100 title.

200-METER DASH

Troy Wissenbach, sr., Marsh Valley

Notable: 3A District 5 champion, third place at 3A state championships

The lowdown: Wissenbach won his second consecutive 3A District 5 title in the 200 this season before adding a third-place mark in the event at the 3A state championships. Wissenbach’s average 200 time this season was 23.4 seconds, including a season-best time (22.78) at state.

400-METER DASH

Kason Hewatt, sr., Pocatello

Notable: Second place at 4A District 4-5 championships

The lowdown: Hewatt finished sixth in the 400-meter dash at the 4A state championships to earn his first career state medal in the event. Hewatt also placed third at the Tiger-Grizz Invitational. His best 400 time of 50.33 seconds came when he finished second at the 4A District 4-5 championships.

800-METER DASH

Shane Gard, soph., Pocatello

Notable: 4A District 4-5 champion, third place at 4A state championships

The lowdown: Gard followed his breakout freshman campaign with a stellar sophomore season. He ran four sub-2-minute 800-meter races, including a personal-best mark of 1 minute, 56.93 seconds, the ninth-fastest 800 time in the state this season.

1,600-METER RACE

Dallin Bird, jr., Pocatello

Notable: 4A state champion, 4A District 4-5 runner-up

The lowdown: Bird won his first 4A state gold medal in the 1,600-meter race this season, running a personal-best time of 4 minutes, 17.47 seconds. Bird placed first at the Tiger-Grizz Invitational and took second at the 4A District 4-5 championships.

3,200-METER RACE

Dallin Bird, jr., Pocatello

Notable: 4A District 4-5 champion, 4A state runner-up

The lowdown: Bird ran a personal-best time of 9 minutes, 25.67 seconds to place second at the 4A state championships. He won a 4A District 4-5 title and was first at the Tiger-Grizz Invitational.

110-METER HURDLES

Ty Wright, sr., Shelley

Notable: 4A District 6 runner-up

The lowdown: Wright capped his season on the track with a seventh-place finish at the 4A state championships. Wright notched sub-16-second races in 10 of 11 races, including a personal-best mark of 15.07 seconds in the prelims at the 4A District 6 championships.

300-METER HURDLES

Caleb Norwood, sr., Rockland

Notable: 1A District 5-6 champion, 1A state runner-up

The lowdown: Norwood ran a personal-best time of 41.05 seconds to finish second at the 1A state championships to earn his first state medal in the 300-meter hurdles. Norwood also won his second 1A District 5-6 title in the 300 hurdles.

RELAY

Pocatello’s sprint medley relay

Traven Hargraves, Kaden Hales, Kason Hewatt, Shane Gard

Notable: 4A District 4-5 champion, 4A state champion

The lowdown: The relay squad capped the season with a time of 3 minutes, 31.40 seconds at the 4A state championships, the fastest sprint medley relay time in Idaho this season.

De’Qua Lang, jr., Century

Notable: 4A District 4-5 runner-up, fourth place at 4A state championships

The lowdown: Lang’s best throws came at the end of the season. He reached 142 feet, 5 inches to finish second at the 4A District 4-5 championships before reaching a personal-best mark of 149 feet, 6 inches to place fourth at state.

SHOT PUT

De’Qua Lang, jr., Century

Notable: 4A District 4-5 champion, 4A state champion

The lowdown: Lang moved the shot 56 feet, 8.5 inches to win a 4A state championship. The mark is the second-longest shot put distance in the state this season. Lang also won his first 4A District 4-5 shot put title this season.

HIGH JUMP

Ty Wright, sr., Shelley

Notable: 4A District 6 champion, 4A state champion

The lowdown: Wright was 10-0 in the high jump as a senior, winning a 4A state title and a 4A District 6 crown. He also won the Tiger-Grizz Invitational and the BYU High School Invitational. Wright cleared at least 6 feet, 6 inches at every meet this season.

POLE VAULT

Enoch Ward, sr., West Side

Notables: 2A District 5 champion

The lowdown: Ward was a model of consistency in the pole vault this season. He cleared at least 11 feet in seven of eight meets, including a personal-best mark of 13 feet to win a 2A District 5 title. Ward also finished sixth at the 2A state championships.

LONG JUMP

Ty Wright, sr., Shelley

Notables: 4A District 6 champion, 4A state runner-up

The lowdown: Wright jumped at least 21 feet in seven on nine meets. His best mark of the season was 21 feet, 7.75 inches at the 4A state championships, where he finished second. Wright will jump at BYU.

TRIPLE JUMP

Adam Jones, jr., Highland

Notable: 5A District 5-6 runner-up

The lowdown: Jones jumped better than 42 feet in the final four meets of the season, including a personal-best mark of 44 feet, 1.5 inches at the Bonneville Invite. Jones was second at the 5A District 5-6 championships and placed eighth at the 5A state championships.
