Two East Idaho men have been sentenced for a carjacking that occurred in September 2018 on Riverton Road in Blackfoot.
Rockit Rodriguez, 23, of Blackfoot, was recently sentenced in U.S. District Court in Pocatello to 130 months in prison for carjacking and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. U.S. District Judge David C. Nye also ordered Rodriguez to serve five years of supervised release following his prison sentence.
His co-defendant, Antonio Ray Sesma-Lopez, 20, of Fort Hall, was sentenced to 37 months in prison for carjacking, followed by three years of supervised release, on Feb. 3.
Rodriguez pleaded guilty to the charges on Dec. 2, 2019. Sesma-Lopez pleaded guilty to the charge on Oct. 22, 2019.
The carjacking occurred on Riverton Road at the Interstate 15 overpass in Blackfoot. U.S. Attorney Bart M. Davis said in a press release Rodriguez stopped a car he was driving on the overpass, transporting Sesma-Lopez and a third individual. A vehicle driving behind them also stopped, according to Davis.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Blackfoot Police Department, the Fort Hall Police Department and the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office cooperated on the investigation.
