POCATELLO — Southeastern Idaho Public Health will hold its 29th Annual Memorial Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Memorial Garden at 1901 Alvin Ricken Drive in Pocatello. This event, co-sponsored with Encompass Home Health & Hospice, is an opportunity for community members to remember and reflect on those who have played an important role in their lives.

As guests arrive, ribbons and ornaments are placed on the memorial trees in honor of loved ones. All who would like to participate in this tradition are encouraged to bring a ribbon or ornament in memory of a loved one.

“We hope this event will be of help by giving strength and courage in dealing with grief and a desire to enjoy the remaining holiday season with your family and friends,” says Karla Alex, tree lighting committee member.

The event is open to the public and consists of a brief inspirational message and candle lighting ceremony outside in the grove of trees in the SIPH Memorial Garden. Following the ceremony, guests are welcome to gather inside for musical entertainment by the Century High School Choir and enjoy hot cider and cookies provided by area hospice volunteers and SIPH employees.

“The holidays can be a very hard time for people who have lost someone close to them. It’s hard for them to find joy. The lights in those trees this time of year just brighten your spirit,” said Alex.

The lights on the tree will shine through the holiday season. For more information, call Dana Solomon at 239-5256.
