The Idaho State University Creative Jazz Academy is slated for June 17-21.

Jonathan Armstrong, ISU's Director of Jazz Studies, will be directing the academy large ensemble, featuring all student and teacher participants.

The small ensembles will give participants the opportunity to play in a dynamic creative jazz ensemble, where they can contribute original ideas and melodies. These small groups will be led by select outstanding ISU jazz students, who will bring their fresh creative concepts to the group.

Each day the academy will be graced with a different guest artist, who will play in the rehearsals all day while offering their opinions and observations. Then, in the afternoon, each guest artist will lead the academy in a different special topics session.

Finally, each small ensemble will get to participate in a recording session in the brand new ISU recording studio.

The Creative Jazz Academy will also be registered as a Continuing Education Credit opportunity for K-12 music educators of any kind who are interested. Those teachers will play their instrument in the academy large ensemble, a teachers only small ensemble led by Armstrong, and are welcome to participate in the special topics activity each afternoon.

In addition, there will be ample time for discussions and conversation regarding jazz pedagogy. For additional information, contact Jonathan Armstrong: armsjona@isu.edu or (208) 282-3143.

Registration is $100 registration for the week. Scholarships are available. Contact Jonathan Armstrong for more information armsjona@isu.edu or (208) 282-3143.
