POCATELLO — The International Association for Communication and Sport recently appointed associate professor Karen Hartman executive director following the successful planning and execution of the Summit on Communication and Sport held in Boise this March.
The Department of Communication, Media and Persuasion and the College of Arts and Letters assisted in logistics for the event, which featured keynote speeches by former gubernatorial candidate A.J. Balukoff and sports journalists Dave Zirin and Shireen Ahmed.
“Hosting the summit with the support of ISU was an honor,” Hartman said, “and I now look forward to furthering the international presence of IACS.”
The summit featured 85 professors and graduate students who presented research on communication and sports topics such as gender, media, sport activism and e-sports. Each of the attendees — from American universities and as far as Germany and Indonesia — sported orange ISU lanyards for the duration of the conference, which was held at the Grove Hotel.
Hartman, who teaches courses in public relations as well as sports communication, becomes the third director in the organization’s history.
