IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation is looking at ways to improve security at Palisades Dam and Reservoir, one of eastern Idaho's most popular recreation areas.

The Post Register reports the Bureau of Reclamation is applying the federal government's post-9/11 security framework to the dam, looking at alternatives for protecting the structure from a terrorist attack and considering how increased security would affect recreation in the area.

Four alternatives are under consideration, with work to begin in the spring of 2011. They include widening or raising the crest of the dam, which vehicles drive across. The work would help protect the structure from a car bomb.
