SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The chairman of the Utah State Board of Regents has called a special meeting to discuss the possible effects of looming cuts to the higher education budget.
In the 2009 legislative session, the higher education budget was cut 17 percent at the same time enrollment has increased by more than 28,000 students.
That cut was softened with federal stimulus money that made the final reduction 9 percent, but that money will be gone after June. Chairman Jed Pitcher says the board needs to address how it will address that shortfall.
A meeting has been scheduled for Friday.
