DUI Driver Causes Head-On Collision

All lanes of westbound SR-18 near Peasley Canyon in Auburn were closed for approximately 2 hours while troopers investigated a head-on collision that sent one driver to the hospital with serious injuries.

Washington State Patrol’s Bellevue communication center received witness reports of an erratically driven 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup northbound on I-5 near Federal Way. One witness followed the pickup as it exited to eastbound SR-18 and then to Weyerhaeuser Way. Once on Weyerhaeuser Way the pickup proceeded northbound and took a right turn on the westbound onramp, proceeding eastbound in the westbound lanes.

The driver, Ivan R. Allen, a 25 year old Soda Springs Idaho resident, drove approximately one and a half miles the wrong way on SR-18 before colliding head-on with a 1993 Subaru Legacy at approximately 3:16 a.m.

Both drivers were transported to Harborview Medical Center. The Subaru was driven by a 42 year-old Auburn man who sustained serious injuries. Allen sustained only minor injuries.

Allen is being investigated for vehicular assault as alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision.
