Clark County Sheriff’s Office officials sent out a reminder Wednesday to always treat firearms as if they were loaded after they say a 17-year-old was injured at the Beaver Creek Farm, north of Idaho Falls.
The accident was reported Tuesday around 4 p.m. in Clark County.
Authorities indicated that the 17-year-old was removing a .22 caliber rifle that had a round in the chamber from the back seat of a car when the rifle went off. The individual was reportedly holding the rifle by the barrel at the time of the accident.
The male was transported by air ambulance to the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. His name is not being released at this time. It is required that members of the media provide a first and last name in order to obtain a health status update.
This case is still under investigation by those with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, according to a news release.
