SODA SPRINGS — Douglas Wood has unseated incumbent Gregg Haney, winning the Caribou County Prosecutor’s Office by a margin of nearly two-to-one.

Wood grabbed 929 votes, or 65 percent, during Tuesday’s Republican primary compared with Haney’s 494 votes. Because there is no Democrat in the race, Wood has won the office with Tuesday’s primary victory.

With his victory in Tuesday’s Republican primary, Mark Mathews also won Caribou County Commission’s District 3 seat.

Four candidates sought the seat vacated by Lloyd Rasmussen, who opted not to run. Mathews took just 38 percent of the vote, but had 150 votes more than his closest competitor, Curtis Thomas, who had 28 percent of the vote.

Because there is no Democrat running in the November general election, Mathews will be the new District 3 Commission for Caribou County.
