Former Idaho State tight end and Blackfoot native Josh Hill made the roster for the New Orleans Saints.
All 32 NFL teams were required to trim their rosters down to 53 players by 4 p.m., Saturday afternoon, and Hill made the cut.
“I was excited when they told me,” Hill said. “I was a little bit relieved, but not really. I know there is a long way to go because I want to do more than just make the team.”
His family was just as delighted when he told them the news.
“They were extremely excited. It was a long process,” he said.
The 6-foot-5, 229-pound Hill was known for his outstanding work ethic and production during his time at ISU. Even though he didn’t record a reception during the preseason, the Saints’ coaching staff saw his potential.
“They said how quickly I (picked things up) at camp, and that I made the team,” he said. “They were looking for some production.
“I’m excited to get going.”
During his 42 games with the Bengals, Hill caught 143 passes for 1,270 yards and nine touchdowns.
Hill will wear No. 89 for New Orleans. The Saints kick off their regular season at home, Sept. 8, against the Atlanta Falcons.
